Divorce Is A New Beginning

At Weibel, Zacheis & Greenfield, LLC, we do more than resolve legal issues; we help our clients and their families rebuild their lives after divorce. We help clients throughout northern Colorado protect their financial and parental interests during the divorce process.

Helping Families During Divorce

In Colorado, marital property is divided based on the principal of equitable distribution. This does not mean property is divided 50-50. Instead, property is divided based on what is most fair. When making this determination, judges look at a wide variety of factors including:

  • The age and health of both parties
  • The length of the marriage
  • Each spouse’s education, skills and work history
  • Each spouse’s sources of income
  • Each spouse’s earning capacity
  • Each spouse’s needs

Detailed Financial Examination Of The Marital Estate

Our legal team thoroughly examines the marital estate to identify every piece of marital property, including real estate, cars, retirement accounts, pension, 401(k)s, investments and business interests. We commonly work with home appraisers, business valuation professionals and accountants to ensure each piece of property is accurately valued. We then work to obtain fair property divisions that protect our clients’ financial interests.

Child custody often must determined during the divorce process. We help parents protect their parent-child bonds after marriages end.

Spousal Maintenance: Support After Marriages End

Spousal maintenance, or alimony, is typically used by judges as a short-term tool to provide lower-earning spouses with support while they gain the education and skills they need to become financially independent. When determining the amount and duration of alimony, courts may consider the length of the marriage, the work history of each spouse and whether one spouse forwent a career in order to care for minor children.

At Weibel, Zacheis & Greenfield, LLC, we help our clients get fair spousal maintenance orders that protect their financial interests and allow them to leave their marriages in the most financially secure manner possible.
